Cuban-Colombian American Cellist Georgie Gonzalez is known for his bold sound and energy. He made his soloist debut in 2022 with the Tampa Metropolitan Youth Orchestra with the Elgar Cello Concerto. As a freshman in college, he was the winner of the schoolwide “Stetson at Carnegie” competition as a soloist and made his Carnegie hall debut later that year. As a chamber musician, Georgie was placed in the distinguished Barron Quartet, the official quartet of Stetson University. The Barron Quartet has now won the “Stetson at Carnegie” competition twice in both 2022 and 2023. In 2022 he was awarded the prestigious Charlie Hounchell Arts Stars Scholarship (CHASS) award by the Tampa Bay Businesses for Culture and The Arts organization and performed at the annual IMPACT awards ceremony. He has attended Green Mountain Chamber Music festival, the Castleman Quartet Program, and Lyricafest. He also toured Italy with the Stetson Chamber Orchestra in 2023. He has also participated in masterclasses with Steven Isserlis, David Ying, Francisco Vila, and chamber coachings with the Ying Quartet, the Aspen Trio, the Ariel Quartet, and the Borromeo Quartet. His past mentors include Scottie Garrison and Dr. Jamie Clark. He is currently studying with Dr. Ignacy Gaydamovich.
